IMU-CET 2015: ( INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY, Chennai)

Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) – 1 year

Eligibility:
Candidate should have Passed in HSC (10+2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less then 60% or Candidate possessing B.Sc. Degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the year, with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year or Candidate possessing B.E./B. Tech. Degree from I.I.T or from a college recognized by AICTE

Age Limit:
Maximum 25 years of age as on 1st of January or 1st of August.

Physical Standards:
Medically fit as per the standards set by M. S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000.

Eyesight:
Candidates have to Qualify a full eyesight test conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department before being finally selected for the course. They should have 6/6 in each  eye without visual aids and should be free from colour blindness.1 year course consists of 2 semesters. After passing out the exams, the cadets will be awarded a DIPLOMA NAUTICAL SCIENCE. The cadets will thereafter be joining on board vessel as a Trainee cadet. They will have to obtain 18 months sea service (Two years time will be taken approximately to complete the 18 months sea experience). With this 18  months sea experience, they will undergo 4 months Second mate’s foundation course & then they are eligible to appear for 2nd mate exams. After passing  the second mate exams, they will be promoted to the rank of a 3rd officer.

This Diploma Nautical Science course also leads to get B.Sc degree in  Nautical Science. During the first 18 months sea service, the students undergo a Distance learning Programme(DLP). With further sea service & exams they will be promoted to
Chief Officer and then eventually become Captain of the ship.

Entry into the one year Diploma in Nautical Science is only through written entrance examination and counseling session conducted by Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai . No candidate can be admitted to the course
without passing the entrance examination of IMU.

Candidates who do not have sponsorship from any DGS approved ship owning/manning company/agents will have to attend the counseling session of IMU after passing their written entrance examination. However, candidates who have sponsorship need not have to attend the counseling session of IMU. They can join the training institute of their choice after clearing only the written test .

B.Sc. Nautical Science Course – 3 Years

Eligibility:

Candidate should have Passed in 10+2 or equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with a PCM aggregate of not less than 60% or Candidate possessing B.Sc.in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or Electronics with an average of not less than 55% of marks in the final year and with Physics as individual subject in one of the year or  Candidate possessing B.E./B.Tech. Degree from I.I.T or from a college recognized by AICTE.

All the above should have English language as a subject, at either 10th or 12th standard   or in the Degree/Diploma course, conducted by the Board or any University with not less than 50% marks.

Age Limit

17 to 25 years as on 31st July.

BE Marine Engineering – 4 years course

Approved by The Directorate General of Shipping,Government of India. Leading to Class IV Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency awarded by the D.G. Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India after six months of Sea Service.
This enables the cadets to become Marine Engineers on board Merchant Navy Ships worldwide.
Course Duration: 4 years or 8 semesters residential course.

Eligibility Criteria:

Qualification: A pass in Plus-two (12th Standard) or its equivalent, with minimum 60% aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry group and at least 50% marks in English.

Age:  Below 25 years at the time of commencement of the course.
Gender: Boys and Girls are eligible to apply

Medical Standard: Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eyesight up to 6/12 in both eyes or 6/9 in better eye, 6/18 in other eye and with no colour blindness.

Diploma students can join second year of regular B.Tech Marine Engineering course. This course for Diploma students will be a three years residential programme, structured into six academic semesters.

Eligibility for Diploma Students:

Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Marine with 55% marks in final year or passed first year of engineering degree from Mechanical/Electrical stream with 60% marks from the college recognized by AICTE.

Graduate Marine Engineering Course – 1  year

About the Course

The Graduate Marine Engineering GME Course is a one year residential programme, where the cadets undergo theoretical classes with demonstration in well-equipped laboratories and six months (Ship in Campus) training .

Eligibility:

B.E / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from a college recognized by AICTE with 60% marks in final year, 50% in  English in 10th / +2 / Degree or Diploma.

Age limit: Below 28 years

Medical standard:
Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eye sight up to 0.5 distance vision with no color blindness. Minimum height should be 157 centimeters.

Training Program:

Apart from the regular curriculum, the cadets are trained at the Ship in Campus to monitor normal operations of a main engine including all the auxiliary machinery and the capability to troubleshoot malfunctions and to performer repair and maintenance.
Marine Engineering cadets are trained in using on-board workshops and tools to affect repairs of components and manufacture simple items.

The training also includes the development of competency in verbal communication, safety culture in maritime environment and important aspects of shipping. The cadets are inculcated with sense of discipline, team spirit and the right attitude with lot of
physical and mental activities.
